Wireless with Macbook & Vodafone

Now I am online when I want to be (and have my Macbook with me :)).

Bought Vodafone MobileConnect a week back. To tell the truth, speed sucks, but I don't (read CAN'T) mind. Only reason I bought MobileConnect from Vodafone is they promise it will work with Mac OS X. And it does.

On Mac updates, I have come across plenty of keyboard and trackpad shortcuts which make life easier. I was planning to use it for some development but so far its songs and movies only :).

Mac comes with XCode installable DVDs, which is a fully loaded development tool from Apple. Just installed it and compiled/ran Hello World!. So good to go.

Finally, I have a MacBook

Bought a new MacBook 13" yesterday. Here's the screenshot.

Mac is not as simple as I thought it was. Any habits are hard to break once you live with them for a while. The key sequences and some standard shortcuts are not always same as Linux or Windows. Anyways, it should be enough to spend some spare time.

I have tried only a subset of applications so far, like iTunes, Safari and iChat. And they worked great for me. Will keep posting as and when I get time.

And thanks to Venkat, I got a healthy discount!

Revising previous posts

I am going to review/revise all my previous posts. Reading them from a third-person's account, I think I have been writing gibberish.

Lets see, how good it will be this time.

Travel Itinreary (Mumbai - Hong Kong - San Francisco)

On Friday morning (18th July), I got confirmation regarding my travel to San Francisco on Saturday morning (19th July).

My flight was scheduled at 6:05 AM from Mumbai, so had to be at CSIA by 3 in the morning. Sabale, Swapnil, Vinod and Govind decided (or may be I decided for them) to accompany me to Airport. We started from our room at 11:00 PM for Mumbai and reached Vashi to Snehal's apartment by 1:45 AM. There we convinced him why he should be in Pune this weekend, and picked him up with baggage for Airport. We reached CSIA well before 2:30 AM.

With last of good byes and well wishes and take-care tips, I entered CSIA Gate C at 3:10 AM. From now on I was on my own, as always, that thought got me scared for some time. I got my boarding pass and checked-in cargo at Cathay Pacific counter. The security check didn't take long and I was on my way to Gate 10 before 4:00 AM. A gap of almost two hours before boarding the flight, half of which I slept through and rest moving around Gate 10 lobby.

The flight, CX-684, from Mumbai to Hong Kong took little over 5 hours. The flight's window view was amazing during landing (it beats that of SFO). The Hong Kong Int'l Airport is one of the best Airports (incidentally, World's Best Airport 2008). After another security check, I spent time till connecting flight to SFO, gazing at huge buildings over Gate 3.

Connecting flight, CX-872, from Hong Kong to San Francisco took around 12 hours to land. The worst part of this travel was that most of it was during day. It's like asking to sleep in afternoon, when I can barely sleep at night.

In all, flight smooth and short (comparatively), and I enjoyed it as much the Air Travel can be enjoyed.

Flying high...

I will be flying again and this time to San Francisco, CA. Will be there for almost 5 months. Looking ahead to see the work culture there. Looking ahead for the friends I may `find` there. Looking ahead to enjoy the life in US.

Looking ahead for the day I will be back.

Wheel Of Time - Robert Jordan

I am done with the first 11 books of the Wheel Of Time series by Robert Jordan and have most of them in my collection by now.

The series starts with "The Eye of the World" where Jordan has hidden so many pointers that you would not stop reading the sequels till 6th book***. But after that the series enters such a slow pace that you wish you had never started reading. The 9th book, "Winter's heart", has some good plots where you start taking interest in reading again. I would call the 10th book the worst in this series.

The 11th book "Knife Of Dreams", ends most of the plots which have been dragged from the last few books. The book also has some revelations which you would be waiting for from the first six books. The (probably) last in the series, "A Memory Of Light", is expected by end of Year 2009.

In Harry Potter we read about the only prophecy we read in the HP series and guess so many things on top of it alone. In Wheel Of Time series Jordan has poured the prophecies all over. You can spend days reading and wondering abt, which I still do.

I have started re-reading the books for now and will be waiting for the fall of 2009.

***: When I finished the 2nd book I couldn't get my hands on the 3rd book soon enough and I was visiting my home town. So I read the 4th book before the 3rd :)

HP done, what next?

The Harry Potter and Deathly Hollows has ended the HP series (not as excitingly as I had hoped, still) and with it my favorite time pass of re-reading the HP books. As of now, I will not be re-reading the 7th book of this magnificent series.

With the end to HP series, I was wondering what to read next in the fantasies.
Well, finally I have started with the Wheel Of Time series by Robert Jordan. The first in this series is "The Eye of the World". I am borrowing the books from Pradnyesh (one of my managers) for now. Will buy them when available at Crosswords.

Check on last i read for updates.

Ram Sonal Wedding

Last sunday (29th April), two of my good friends got married. The Wedding was crowded by Ram's college friends. Very few from BE CSE 2006 could manage to attend the wedding. The juniors were more in number than our classmates.
The wedding was in Beed, we (me, Sabale, Swapnil and my bro Santosh) got there by indica. Only other guy from class was Bhagya who got there directly from Chennai.
Will upload some photos once Ram shares them with me:)

Seems like it was a week full of marriages, as one of my School friend Shankar also got married on 26th April. I couldn't attend this one.

To Sinhgad and back

This Monday we (me, Sable, Pandya, Gautami, Vibha, Supriya, Chintan, Kshitija and Priyanka) went to Sinhgad and enjoyed a lot there.

The journey up was good and fine as we got there in a jeep. We enjoyed a lot up there.

Journey down was a nightmare. As none of the girls were having any experience in Trekking, it took us more than 3 hours to reach the town.

Don't want to write much about this.

Last friday I enjoyed the nightout at Panshet. We ( me and friends from company ) started on bikes from PT by 10:30pm and were at Panshet by 12:30 AM. We then did some nasty trekking to reach the top of the hill. We were there upto 5 AM. We started a very nice fire up there. Sure I enjoyed this (long after purandar).

Two months after coming to Pune for job hunt Sabale got selected in Tata Elxi.
Joining today at Banglore. Shwaita also got selected.

The reason we went to goa was just to celebrate Sabale's success.
